Great for Urban Lawns

The Makita DLMPT2 36V 18" combo kit contains mower, fabric catcher, mulching plug, two batteries, and charger. For your lawn at home, this unit is a good transition from petrol engine to cordless, far less maintenence. Also good if you already use a Makita cordless tool platform for common battery usage. Out of the box the only items requiring assembly are the handle and fabric/steel frame grass catcher. I purchased this mower because it has a mulching plug, I generally don't use a catcher. The mower has a good range of height adjustment, and excellent safety mechanism for operation (like most cordless mowers do). The one piece blade cuts well and leaves a smooth cut. Mower operation is reasonably quiet, and has two speed settings: normal and quieter modes. The battery level indicator displays three levels for each battery. A handle on the front enables easy lifting of the mower if you have varying lawn levels, or even to put it on a bench. While the mulching plug works well to enable the mulching action to occur, when installed there is a small space above the plug that allow some grass clippings to collect preventing quick removal of the mulching plug, the plug needs to be jiggled to free the compacted clippings. The mower base appears to be steel and the cutting area has a nice smooth surface profile enabling easy cleaning of grass stain (that green stain that sticks to the surface). After cutting I hose off the loose clippings and use an automotive bug remover to clean up any remaining grass stain (Bowden's Own "Bugger Off" product works extremely well). Like other mowers, it would be nice if the handle width was less than the base width to make it easier when having to cut right next to a wall (like a garage wall or fence), and if the back wheels track length was same as the front wheels to enable cutting as close to a wall or edge as possible. As it is (compared to my old mower), there's extra edge trimming needed. Overall, though, for me this mower works extremely well, is easy to use, and has a plain appearance unlike some other brands that look like a kids toy.

Lawn porn!!!

Couldn’t be happier with the results from my new Makita mower - one charge gets the whole lawn done, catcher is better than I expected- highly recommend

Another fantastic addition to my 18v collection

I wanted to switch to a battery mower so I could be rid of the petrol for good. I was a bit nervous making the switch but I’m so glad I did!

My Makita is outperforming my previous petrol mower in every aspect (which is a well known and respected make mower). It was easy to set up, it starts like a dream, it’s quieter than my petrol mower, and on my first mow it cut through some very long and thick buffalo that had been fertilised and had plenty of sun and rain, with no trouble at all.

The soft catcher is odd after always having the old plastic ones, but it seems quite robust, and emptying and fitting it is so simple, it also has a little fabric thing that floats when empty and lays flat if full, so no more guessing. The catcher is quite light, which is great for emptying it into otto bin given I’m so short; I was surprised how seamlessly I switched to the new system.

I’ve used it half a dozen times now and I’m still impressed after every mow. I’m getting a better cut on my lawn, it’s going through my grass easily and it’s quite easy to push for a sturdy machine. Now that I have both a whipper and mower on the 18v system, my lawns are so much easier and cleaner; I have no more last minute runs for petrol and no petrol smell in my shed. I also have no more family or neighbours laughing at me trying to start my lawnmower or whipper snipper anymore ;)

For anyone worrying if it will do the job of a petrol mower, don’t. It has well and truely outdone mine.
